Last year, I started the blog Things I Can't Tell My Therapist - Intimate Diaries of a Badly-Behaved Manhttp://manincrisis.blogspot.com/ in order to tell a story - my story. It's either a sad, cautionary tale of male mid-life crisis or, alternatively, an uplifting account of someone finding himself, depending on your point of view. Either way, though, it's personal - very personal, at times! (Or it's just smut - again depending on your point of view). Even though posts occasionally touch on the ways in which books or films may help us make sense of our lives, they're intended to work together as a sort of narrative; to form an intimate and individual record, rather than commenting more widely on modern mores and relationships.
So where on earth was I going to put the rest of the weird stuff going round and round in my head? Public-Address-System is the answer. Think of it as the annex, perhaps, to my other blog; or, as the ante-room to what passes for my inner life: a place where I can argue and judge and examine things critically. A place where I can romp happily through the zeitgeist, holding forth on culture and popular culture, sexual politics, history, psychology, the individualandsociety.....
These rants and interventions are in the form of articles, travel pieces or reviews, rather than conventional blog posts as such. They carry all the usual references, of course; plus what I hope are useful or stimulating links to source materials and other related sites.
